The goal of the project was to create a precast mock-up produced at and in collaboration with Northeast Precast using Ultra High-Performance Concrete (UHPC). The strength of UHPC allowed us to explore thinner panel designs that could be poured without rebar. After several iterations, we came up with a final design for two panels.
Drawings of the formwork, including the layout for sheet metal cuts were sent to Northeast Precast, where the formwork was created and assembled. A six-axis industrial IRB 4600 robotic arm was used to cut our foam inserts which were used to form the voids. The final panel was casted after we caulked and prepared the formwork on pour day.
